What is Walk-in cooler & freezer?

Cold rooms and freezers run without interruption. Their consumption depends less on the setpoint than on three things: how often the door stands open, how well the seal closes and how badly the evaporator is iced up.

A gradual deterioration does not show in the temperature — the controller holds that to the last. It shows in the run time: the compressor runs longer for the same result.

What is measured here

  • Room temperature for cooler and freezer
  • Compressor run time per hour (the real early indicator)
  • Electrical power of the refrigeration unit
  • Defrost cycles per day

  • Room sensors over Modbus or from the BMS — the cold chain stays documented.

  • Detects rising compressor run time at unchanged room temperature — seal, icing or refrigerant.
  • Flags excessive door openings from the temperature pattern.
  • Checks whether the defrost cycles match actual icing instead of running on a fixed timer.
  • Moves pre-cooling out of the peak-service demand window.

Why is run time more meaningful than temperature?

The controller holds the setpoint as long as it can — running continuously if need be. So the temperature looks fine while consumption has long been climbing. Run time per hour exposes the deterioration immediately.
