What is winding temperature?

Monitors the winding temperature in three phases (alarm at 130 °C, max. 120 °C continuous operation) — overtemperature accelerates the insulation of the copper wire and can lead to a winding short circuit.

What the AI reads from these values

What the AI reads
  • Compliance with the maximum temperature of 120 °C in continuous operation to prevent ageing processes
  • Early warning via alarm at 130 °C to prevent an imminent winding short circuit
  • Verification of the thermal load on the copper wire insulation through continuous measured values
  • Comparison of the live measured value (reference: 52 °C) to validate the cooling circuit
Scenario

Monitoring: continuous

The scenario: a drifting excitation shifts the cos φ without triggering a limit value, reactive power costs or grid issues. The AI: detects the shift in proportion early and reports it before the protection reacts. It identifies the trend before the limit value is reached.

Why this matters

Precise monitoring prevents thermally induced winding short circuits and minimises the risk of costly failures or fire hazards. By adhering to the limit values, the service life of the insulation layers is significantly extended. This reduces unplanned downtime and ensures the long-term economic viability of the CHP unit operation.
