What are formaldehyde emissions?

Formaldehyde is formed during incomplete methane combustion; the oxidation catalyst reduces it to TA-Luft compliant values — in the event of catalyst poisoning, formaldehyde and CO levels rise together.

What the AI reads from these values

What the AI reads
  • Increase in formaldehyde as an indicator of incomplete combustion
  • Correlation between formaldehyde and CO values for the detection of catalyst poisoning
  • Verification of TA-Luft compliance through continuous measurement
  • Identification of process instabilities in the exhaust gas stream before limit values are exceeded
Scenario

Monitored: continuous

The scenario: an emission value creeps slowly upwards, and is only noticed during the official measurement; in the worst case, operation is restricted. The AI: detects the trend towards the limit value early and reports a need for action before the measurement occurs. It identifies the trend before the limit value is exceeded.

Why this matters

Early detection of catalyst poisoning prevents costly downtime and penalties due to exceeding TA-Luft limit values. Monitoring enables precise maintenance planning of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system. This ensures continuous compliance with emission specifications during CHP unit operation. Measured value (mg/m³) · Limit value (mg/m³) → — % reserve to limit value Calculation: (Limit value − Measured value) ÷ Limit value × 100
